"To be in the World
  and Not of it..."

   Lessons I Learned
   from Working in China

with Ernie Tadla
Author, China Business Coach, Seeker and Peacemaker

What happens when the "Great Wall" we face is not on our land, but in our mind?

In 1999, Ernie Tadla was recruited for a two-year management contract with an American-owned, Chinese marketing & communication company in Shanghai.

As he now recalls it, he went from a "developed, Christian, capitalistic democracy to a developing, godless, communist dictatorship." This ignorance, arrogance and judgment created great walls for Ernie, and he ran headlong into them.

Forced to open his mind and come to understand & accept the Chinese Way - simply in order to survive - Ernie began a love affair with the country, its history, traditions, culture, values and people. The two-year contract turned into seven years – and a book: How to Live and Do Business in China: Eight Lessons I Learned from the Communists.

Ernie will share how his cultural-and-spiritual odyssey -- which actually began thirty years earlier -- challenged and matured his practical application of spiritual principles through working in a strange land... and led him to become a world citizen and an "evangelist" for peace.

"Living & working in China brought me awareness, understanding, compassion, non-judgment, acceptance of another culture - and as a result, inner peace. Inner peace is the first and necessary step to world peace." - Ernie Tadla

About Ernie Tadla:

After a successful sales and management career in the pharmaceutical industry (with Johnson & Johnson, Bristol Myers Squibb and Quadra Logic Technologies (QLT)), Ernie Tadla was contracted to bring Western management techniques to China. His experiences transformed his life and attitudes towards other cultures and business.

His book - How to Live & Do Business in China - is currently #1 in Amazon.com's "China Business Books" category. Reviewers say: "He has peered beneath the veil and found depth that few foreigners see or understand." "Ernie has the right 'human touch' to work with Chinese people that most others, no matter how good they are and how long they've stayed in China, just don't get." "[His] style is captivating… and very practical."

A spiritual seeker for over 30 years, Ernie has been influenced by many sources -- from quantum physics to the Bible, SMI (Success Motivation International) to Think and Grow RichCosmic Consciousness and The Biology of Belief. A student of the subconscious mind, he regularly uses visualization for change and growth in his own life.

Ernie has also written an unpublished manuscript called: The Conversation that Changed My Life: One Man's Spiritual Odyssey – and will share parts of this story during his presentation. Since returning from China in September 2005, he has been residing in Westbank (near Kelowna) to be close to his 91-year-old Mother. (Ernie's Web site is www.odysseychina.net)
